Introduction of TWGHs
Early Childhood Services, Community Services Division of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals
Tung Wah Group of Hospitals is the oldest and largest local charitable organization offering a wide range of services since 1870 to include medical, education and community services. Through a territory-wide network of over 300 service units, are made available to meet social needs.
TWGHs started its early childhood services in year 1968. In providing day care and education programs for children under 6, day nurseries also serve children with special developmental needs. The curriculum is designed to be age and individually appropriate so that children can, in a pleasant and caring environment, develop core skills, cultivate positive attitudes and learn to live a healthy lifestyle.
Educational Mission and Objectives
- To help families solve problems relating to child education and care in order to get parents can work, and to help parents enhance parenting skills.
- To enable children to grow up healthily and actively in an optimal environment under the care and guidance of professional education practitioners.
- To enable children achieve comprehensive and balanced development in terms of their social skills, intelligence, physical fitness, emotions, aesthetic perception, creativity, and in other aspects.
- Develop children's good habits, interest in learning and their self-care ability.

Opening of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Shek Lei Day Nursery
In 1974, the Board of Directors made effort to support working women in industrial areas and new towns for better standards of living, and to address the urgent need for day child care services. The Board then applied to the Housing Department, to establish a day nursery with lower costs at shorter time period. After the renovation of the premises at G/F of Shek Lei Estate granted by the Department, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Shek Lei Day Nursery was opened on 26 February, 1975 with a capacity of 60 children.

Naming of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Lions Club of South Kowloon Day Nursery
Lions Club of South Kowloon H.K. generously donated HKD $200,000, to support service development in Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. To acknowledge the generosity of the Lions Club of South Kowloon, in 1982 the Board named the nursery as, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Lions Club of South Kowloon Day Nursery in 1982 with naming ceremony taken place on 23 June, 1982, and officiated by the President of Lions Club of South Kowloon H.K. Mr. Ng Chong.

In 1985, the name was changed to "Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Lions Club of South Kowloon Day Nursery".

Temporary termination of services of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Lions Club of South Kowloon Day Nursery
Services were provided by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Lions Club of South Kowloon Day Nursery, up until the redevelopment of Shek Lei Estate in July 1997.

Resumption and carrying out of services at the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Lions Club of South Kowloon Nursery School
The school was relocated to G/F, Chung Wo House, Chung On Estate, Ma On Shan, Sha Tin, New Territories and had its first day of day nursery education and care services on 16 June, 2000.

The first team of Integrated Programme
The first team of Integrated Programme for mildly disabled children was commenced.

The second team of Integrated Programme
To meet the needs of the community, a second team was added to provide rehabilitation services for mildly disabled children. At the same time, the capacity of the school was increased from 112 to 118.

The third team of Integrated Programme
Upon invitation by the Social Welfare Department, a third team was added to provide rehabilitation services for mildly disabled children.

Quality Education Fund Project on Early Mathematics
The school, together with four other nursery schools of TWGHs, had participated in “Using Assessments as the Basis of Promoting Children’s Development and Learning” funded by the Quality Education Fund to establish a better professional assessment mechanism able to capture effectiveness of teaching based on which the quality could be improved.

Our school passed Education Bureau's first round of "Quality Review" for Kindergartens and Nursery Schools in Hong Kong.

Won an award on energy saving at the "Energy Saving Championship 2017" (Hanson Outstanding Award and Best Presentation Award) jointly organised by the Environment Bureau and the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department.

School Facilities
The Nursery School has floor area of 407 sq. m., which includes 3 activities rooms, indoor playground, music room, kid's lavatory, supervisor room, staff room. kitchen, laundry and store room etc.
Each activity room provides diverse self-choice learning corners with activities relating to language, games, building blocks, imaginative play, art, etc., to inspire children to achieve comprehensive development of their personality in all aspects, from moral, intellectual, physical, social to aesthetic, and to be able to continuously self-study, explore, innovate and adapt to changes in their lives.
The Nursery School is adjacent to parks, promenades, shopping malls, libraries, post offices and other public facilities, thereby making it easy to organise outdoor activities and allowing children to get in touch with nature and the community.
The Nursery School provides diverse environmentally-friendly facilities, including: water-saving shower faucets in all of the lavatories, LED lighting throughout the entire school, heat-insulating film on all doors and windows, split-type inverter air conditioning with a variable frequency drive to control heating and cooling output throughout the entire school, suction-type LED mosquito lamps throughout the entire school, an infrared body temperature detection system, induction cookers and induction woks in the kitchen, and an energy recovery ventilation system and CO2 monitoring system throughout the entire school.

Our Team
Teaching Team
- The Principal, senior teacher and child care workers all have recognised professional qualifications, and they are caring and have rich pre-school education experience.
- The organization's Clinical and Educational psychologists and curriculum senior teacher, registered social workers, speech therapists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists also provide professional support for children and parents through their professional advice and training on curriculum and teaching.

Teacher Development
According to the development of the school and the children's developmental needs, different professional teacher training is provided regularly for teachers to participate in, thereby enhancing the professional knowledge and skills of all the nursery teachers.
